The Milwaukee Show at the Milwaukee Film Festival showcases some of the best shorts by local filmmakers.   At the show Sunday night we saw 10 movies from great local talent.  I just wanted to highlight my five favorites but ranking them proved too difficult so I will just list them in alphabetical order.
The Daffy Strut – I love alien invasion movies and I like chess. So why not combine the two?  This animated short is a fun movie about a Josie and the Pussycats like pop band that gets called on by the US Government to stop an alien attack.  The alien turns them into chess pieces and they must try to defeat him.  It’s got some cool looking animation and funny dialogue.  It was a lot of fun.

Destiny- After seeing Rubin Whitmore’s Life after Death at the Milwaukee Short Film Festival I was looking forward to seeing this one.  While this movie is completely different Rubin has won himself a big fan.  Written by Milwaukee native Matthew Collison Destiny morphed into an LA set film about two Koreans having a discussion about Destiny.  While the twist at the end wasn’t too surprising it was a very well done movie that had a lot of intensity.  Looking forward to what both of these guys do in the future.

Dog*Walk- For those that like short fun films this is the one for you.  The movie is about two girls who start a “dog walking” business.  There isn’t a whole lot going on in the film but it’s fun, silly and a perfect crowd pleaser.

Fast Company -The only documentary in the group of 10. As a lover of short docs I thought it worked perfectly.  Fast Company tells the story off Boo McAfee who started the World Fastest Drummer Competition.  Some people take drumming very seriously and McAfee invented the Drumometer to measure how many hits someone can get in one minute.  At first it was just fun but it is a competition that is growing.  Check out our interview with him here.

The Life and Times of Thomas Thumb Jr. – This was definitely the most talked about film at the after party.  This hilarious film featured Tom Thumb a man with a thumb as a head.  He just wants to be rich but he can't seem to catch a break. But once he figures out how he can make money his whole life changes. The ending is one of the funniest rap song video parodies you will see.  Ryan Fox hit this out of the park.  If you get a chance to see it you won't be sorry.
