The weather is getting cooler and the quality of movies are getting better. Must mean its Award Season time.
Today the Oscars announced the 27 movies that have been submitted for the best Animated Feature Oscar. If you are thinking that's a lot of animated movies you are correct. It's a record number of submissions. But not all of them have had their official qualifying run in LA so the number might go down.
Out of the 27 only 5 will go on to get a nominations. So what 5 will do it? Since the start of the Animated Feature category Disney and Pixar have won nearly all the awards. And this year they have 3 on the list (Zootopia, Finding Dory, and Moana). I doubt all three will get a nomination but which one or two will get left off? And will this be one of those years that Disney/Pixar doesn't win? They have some strong competition. Kubo and the Two Strings got tons of great reviews and could become a front runner. Another question is can Sausage Party get a spot on the top 5 and make it two years in a row that a Rated R film gets nominated (Anomalisa got nominated last year) in what has traditionally been a category filled with kids movies.
Let us know what you think. Either way if you love animated feature films this has been a great year.
