October is a busy month on Netflix with a lot coming and going.

The highlight of the month is Beasts of No Nation which Netflix is releasing in theaters the same day it releases it streaming. The movie is an Oscar hopeful and Netflix is ruffling feathers with this kind of release.

Also coming in October is Paul Thomas Anderson's breakthrough movie Boogie Nights. Batman Begins, Million Dollar Baby, and The Bourne Supremacy are also making there way to Netflix in October.

Unfortunately leaving us is The Big Lebowski, Annie Hall, and Pee Wee's Big Adventure. And for some strange reason a couple of horror movies a leaving before Halloween. A Nightmare on Elm St, The Exorcist and Devils Rejects are all leaving next month.

According to the Hollywood Reporter Woody Harrelson will be the villain in War of the Plane of the Apes.
The movie follows Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in the ongoing Planet of the Apes saga.  War for the Planet of the Apes is being directed by by Matt Reeves who directed 2014 Dawn.

The two movies have been hugely successful with the Apes pretty much stealing the show from their human counterparts.  Harrelson is rumored to be playing a character called The Colonel.  We do not know the details of the story but if you have seen the first two and the original 1968 version of Planet of the Apes  then you have a pretty good idea where the story is headed.  With War in the title we are expecting lots of action.

Disney is going back to their vault again and announced that they are working on a new Mary Poppins movies.  Mary Poppins was a huge success for Disney in 1964 and the difficulties of Disney to get the rights was chronicled in the movie Saving Mr. Banks in 2013.  The first movie was based on the first book in P.L. Travers 8 book series.  The next movie will take place 20 years afterward depression-era London and be based on the other books in the series.

Rob Marshall who won an Oscar for Chicago is set to direct with David Magee (Life of Pi) will write the screenplay.  The music will be written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman who wrote songs fro Hairspray and the TV series Smash.

The movies is not being called a sequel despite taking place 20 years after the original.  Reportadly the movie has the blessing of the Travers estate and Richard Sherman who co-wrote some of the iconic songs from the original movie with his late brother Robert Sherman.

Mary Poppins won 5 Oscars including Best Actress for Julie Andrews and Best Song for Chim Chim Cher-ee by the Sherman Brothers.  No word yet on who will be taking over the iconic role.

EW was the first to break the news.

It's exciting to be a film fan in Milwaukee. Today we got the complete list of movies playing at the Milwaukee Film Festival. There are lots of movies to be excited for so let's dive in.

Opening up the film festival is Youth staring Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel. Directed by Paolo Sorrentino, whose The Great Beauty was the 2014 Foreign Language Oscar winner. The movie is about two longtime friends as they reflect on their life while in the Swiss Alps.

The closing night film is Raiders. Which sounds like a great fun movie to end the festival with. The story of two guys who tried to remake Raiders of the Lost Ark shot for shot. The movie looks at their attempts as kids and there desire to complete it as adults.

The center piece movie is as timely as anything playing at the festival. Peace Officer is a documentary about    A man William Lawrence investigating the death of his son-in-law by Utah SWAT team. The twist is Lawrence was the one who created the SWAT team 30 Years ago. With Police shootings still in the news this promised to be an interesting look from the viewpoint of a police officer.

Other documentaries that look great are Joshua Oppenheimer's The Look of Silence a sort of sequel to his The Act of Killing that was part of the 2013 Film Fest and He Named Me Malala from Davis Guggenheim (Waiting for 'Superman') about the then 15 year old Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai.

Taking a break from the super serious docs is Finders Keepers about a guy who finds a leg in a grill he buys and the man whose leg it was. Or if is it it still the guys leg? The battle over a severed leg goes all the way to court and ends up on tv on Judge Joe Brown.  Sounds like one bizarre situation and a crazy fun documentary.

Lots of other great movies on this list.  Full list below from the Press Release.  What movies are you looking forward too.

Most of these have won prizes at other competitions. The Russian Woodpecker by South Milwaukee native Chad Garcia won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize for International Documentary, Imperial Dreams won the Audience Award as the Best of NEXT at Sundance, and Uncertain (which we are lucky to be partnering with) won Best New Documentary Director at Tribeca Film Fest.

Coming and Going on Netflix in September

Fans of 80 movies are going to love whats coming to Netflix this month.  Fans of blockbusters are going to be disappointed when they see what is leaving.  It's one of those months.  For 80's fans we have Rambo 1,2, and 3, and Monster Squad (although it is sad that The Lost Boys are leaving).

The biggest news is that Netflix didn't renew their deal with EPIX.  For those that don't know EPIX is a cable channel that brings the latest big studio movies to TV.  They have had a contract for Netflix to show the movies that premiere on their channel.  So blockbusters like The Hunger Games, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and Wolf of Wall Street.  You might be asking why Netflix is letting the contract expire? Well the answer is easy. They want exclusive content.  Netflix wasn't the only one that had a contract with EPIX, Amazon Prime had the same contract. Which is why Netflix and Amazon Prime had a lot of similar content.  Netflix wants movies that no one else has and let the contract go in favor of more original programming.  Netflix does has a contract with Disney which will give them the rights to stream Disney movies starting in 2016.  With Netflix passing on the EPIX contract Hulu picked it up and Amazon Prime still has their contract so still plenty of places to stream those movies.

Also of note Amazon Prime now offers offline viewing of some of their shows and movies.  This feature use to be available on Amazon Fire Tablets but now for all users of the app.

Below is the list of movies coming and going from CNET.com
