Disney is going back to their vault again and announced that they are working on a new Mary Poppins movies. Mary Poppins was a huge success for Disney in 1964 and the difficulties of Disney to get the rights was chronicled in the movie Saving Mr. Banks in 2013. The first movie was based on the first book in P.L. Travers 8 book series. The next movie will take place 20 years afterward depression-era London and be based on the other books in the series.
Rob Marshall who won an Oscar for Chicago is set to direct with David Magee (Life of Pi) will write the screenplay. The music will be written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman who wrote songs fro Hairspray and the TV series Smash.
The movies is not being called a sequel despite taking place 20 years after the original. Reportadly the movie has the blessing of the Travers estate and Richard Sherman who co-wrote some of the iconic songs from the original movie with his late brother Robert Sherman.
