Vin Diesel's Bold Prediction

In an interview with Variety Vin Diesel made the bold prediction that Furious 7 would be nominated for an Oscar.  He  went even further and said "“It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don’t want to be relevant ever.”
Well those are some big words but Diesel thinks Furious 7 is more than an action movie and is an "emotionally powerful"
I think Diesel is just having some fun but it would be interesting if it got some award recognition besides the almost guaranteed MTV Movie Award nominations.

Disney has been releasing little rid bits about their live action Beauty and the Beast adaption but this morning we got a lot of new information.

First we have a date. Following the trend of their recent live action adaption it will be released in March. March 17, 2017 to be exact.

While we knew Emma Watson will be playing Belle other casting news has been confirmed. Luke Evans will be playing Gaston, Dan Stevens will be the Beast. New names announced are Josh Gad as Gaston's sidekick LeFou, Emma Thonpson as Mrs. Potts, and Kevin Kline as Belle's dad.

Maybe the most surprising news is that Alan Menkin and Tim Rice will be back for the score and soundtrack.  Not only will the live action include updated versions of the classic songs but will include new songs as well.  The animated version won two Oscars for it's music and went on to inspire a smash musical on Broadway.  This will be the first Disney movie to get a musical live action adaption.

The movie will be directed by Bill Condon based on a screenplay by Stephen Chbosky.  Both have experience in musicals.  Condon directed Dreamgirls and Chbosky wrote the screen adaption of Rent.

Disney Makes Big Announcements

At today's Disney Shareholders meeting CEO Bob Iger made a coupe of big announcements.

First up is news on the next couple of Star Wars movies.  It was confirmed that Rian Johnson (Looper) will be writing and directing Star Wars Episode VIII.  Also announced was a May 26, 2017 release date.  The other Star Wars news was about the first stand alone movie.  While we have no idea what that movie will be about we now know we will be seeing it December 16, 2016.  It will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and star Oscar nominee Felicity Jones.

Star Wars wasn't the only big franchise to get some news.  After being mum on the topic for a while Disney made it official that there will be a Frozen 2 coming.  While no release date or plot details were released it looks like the principals behind the first one will be back.  Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck are working on the story.  Can't wait for the sequel then you can catch up with Anna, Elsa, and Olaf with the short Frozen Fever that will be showing before the live action Cinderella.

Another New Ghostbusters movie is on it's way from Sony

Who you gonna call?  Ghosbusters.  And if you think one movie isn't enough the Sony is giving you what you want.  According to Deadline Sony is  planning a shared universe a la Marvel with different Ghostbuster films, TV shows, and books.  A division at Sony was formed called Ghostcorps which will oversee the entire Ghostbuster franchise.  The primary members of Ghostcorps are Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd two of the original Ghostbusters.

Of course first up is the already announced all female ghostbusters team that includes Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy that will be directed by Paul Feig.  The surprising part of the new announcement is that another ghostbusters movie is in the works.  This one rumored to be directed by the Russo brothers who made a big splash with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and will directing the sequel the much anticipated Captain America: Civil War.  Also with a Marvel Background the movie is reportedly being written by Drew Pearce who wrote Iron Man 3.  But the biggest news is probably that this will have a male cast.  Channing Tatum is helping produce the film and it is assumed he will be in the movie as one of the ghostbusters and another name that has been mentioned is Chris Pratt (also from the Marvel Universe) who seems to be in talks to be in every major franchise.  Will this one be an all male team? Hard to say since there is no script and only two rumored actors but that is what a lot of people is taking this as.  How will the two films be connected? No one is really sure yet but it will be interesting if they can pull both movies off.  Just odd for a spin off to be announced before the first one has already come out.  Or will the two movies be him and her Ghostbuster films?  Let us know your thoughts.
