The monthly Netflix shuffle has been announced and as far as new movies go nothing to really get too excited about. The most interesting thing coming in December is A Very Murray Christmas. Directed by Sofia Coppola the variety shows features Bill Murray in a variety show featuring lots of celebrity guests. Also coming is the Western The Ridiculous 6 by Adam Sandler. The movie has got tons of bad press before the release and at this point it's more of a curiosity piece than anything to get excited over. Check out below for the full list. The Academy has announced the 10 Animated Shorts and 10 Live Action shorts advancing to the Oscars. While shorts are usually unknown and I haven’t seen many of them there are two interesting omissions. Disney has won plenty of animated shorts over the years and last year’s Fest was one of their best shorts. But despite the love for Frozen at the Oscars a couple of years ago Frozen Fever failed to make the cut. Also, Pixar had two feature films this year and with them comes two short films. But only Sanjay’s Super Team which will screen before The Good Dinosaur made the cut. Lava which screened before Inside Out got left off. Has anyone seen any other movies on the lists? What movies do you think should have been included? Full list below. Amazon is following in Netflix's footsteps and getting into the original picture business. Their biggest acquisition so far came at this weekends American Film Market where they picked up Nicolas Winding Refn's The Neon Demon. The movie was financed by Gaumont and Wild Bunch and they have been shopping it around to distributors since Cannes. Amazon got the U.S. distribution rights and will be releasing it stateside next summer. Nicolas Winding Refn is one of the more interesting filmmakers out there today. After getting critical success and cult like status for Drive he followed it up with Only God Forgives a bizarre tale that had neither. But his films are always intriguining and look great. Up next for him is The Neon Demon a horror movie staring Elle Fanning and Keanu Reeves. The movie is about a women (Elle Fanning) who moves to Hollywood and has her body "devoured" by older women trying to keep their looks. Let us know what you think. Was this a good pick up by Amazon? Are you looking forward to Refn's next movie? The legendary actor Gunnar Hansen who made Leatherface an iconic horror icon died yesterday from Pancreatic Cancer. Hansen who auditioned for the The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on whim turned Leatherface into one of the most disturbing characters in cinema history. He had studied Math and English in college planned to become a writer but after the success of the movie he continued to make appearances in horror movies. But he continued to write for magazines and even wrote a few screenplays. By all accounts he was a nice man and nothing like his character. He will be missed. Hans Christian Anderson's The Little Mermaid is getting a live action adaption. But unlike other fairy tale adaptions this one is coming from Universal Studios not Disney. Earlier in the year Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides) was set to direct the movie but has since dropped out. But the project moves on. And today the have someone to play the titular mermaid. Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, Hugo) will play the mermaid that falls in love with a human. The screenplay is being written by Richard Curtis (Bridget Jones Diary, Four Weddings and a Funeral) but still has no director attached. Not much else is known about the movie. Let us know what you think. The Academy announced today the 16 Feature Length Animated films eligible for the Oscar. Included are some well known films and few that haven't been released yet. For the first time ever two Pixar movies will be going up against each other. While Inside Out is currently the front runner we have yet to see Pixar's other offering The Good Dinosaur. Also gaining some traction is the Charlie Kaufman film Anomalisa. The rated R stop motion film has been gaining praise at every festival it goes to and could give Inside Out a run for it's money. It's even possible that both movies could land in the Best Picture race. Full list of the 16 movies is below below which 5 movies do you think will get the nomination and which one do you think has the best chance of winning? “Anomalisa”
“The Boy and the Beast” “Boy and the World” “The Good Dinosaur” “Home” “Hotel Transylvania 2” “Inside Out” “Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet” “The Laws of the Universe - Part 0” “Minions” “Moomins on the Riviera” “The Peanuts Movie” “Regular Show: The Movie” “Shaun the Sheep Movie” “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water” “When Marnie Was There” |
