Disney has been releasing little rid bits about their live action Beauty and the Beast adaption but this morning we got a lot of new information.
First we have a date. Following the trend of their recent live action adaption it will be released in March. March 17, 2017 to be exact.
While we knew Emma Watson will be playing Belle other casting news has been confirmed. Luke Evans will be playing Gaston, Dan Stevens will be the Beast. New names announced are Josh Gad as Gaston's sidekick LeFou, Emma Thonpson as Mrs. Potts, and Kevin Kline as Belle's dad.
Maybe the most surprising news is that Alan Menkin and Tim Rice will be back for the score and soundtrack. Not only will the live action include updated versions of the classic songs but will include new songs as well. The animated version won two Oscars for it's music and went on to inspire a smash musical on Broadway. This will be the first Disney movie to get a musical live action adaption.
The movie will be directed by Bill Condon based on a screenplay by Stephen Chbosky. Both have experience in musicals. Condon directed Dreamgirls and Chbosky wrote the screen adaption of Rent.
