While it's been rumored since Comic Con we now have official confirmation. Colin Trevorrow will direct Star Wars: Episode IX.
With lots of info coming out of the D23 Expo this was one of the not so shocking news but it's nice to have confirmation.
Trevorrow previously directed the indie Sci-Fi comedy Safety Not Guarenteed. Then he was given the reigns to the Jurassic Park Franchise and wrote and directed Jurassic World which is one of the highest grossing movies of all time and currently holds the record for largest opening weekend (at least till The Force Awakens opens). While Jurassic Workd has made tons of money and pleased the core audience it has gotten a lot of criticism for its writing. Bur as of now Tecorrow is only set to direct not write Episode IX.
The film won't start production for a while and is slated for a 2019 release. The current release slate is below.
