Oscar Winners

Well the Oscars were last night and finally ends one of the strangest award seasons. One of the fun things about this years Oscars was lack of predictability so I don't feel bad I didn't do so well with my predictions.
Of course as we got closer to the Oscars The Revenant took over frontrunner status but I kept telling everyone you can't count out Spotlight, The Big Short, or Mad Max. So while Spotlight winning Best Picture was a bit of a surprise wasn't total shocker like when Shakespeare in Love beat Saving Private Ryan or Crash beat Brokeback Mountain.

The biggest surprise of the night was Ex Machina winning Best Visual Effects. With Mad Max winning almost every other technical award and stiff competition from Star Wars (my pick) and The Revenant it seemed very unlikely that Ex Machina would pull out the win.

Another surprise was Stallone losing Best Supporting Actor. Mark Rylance had a lot of early wins in award season but this was seen as more of a career a acheivement award for Stallone than based on an individual performance.

In total Mad Max won the most awards with 6 but mostly technical awards. Although it's win for Best Costume still feels odd.

The Revenant won three awards. After being nominated 5 times Leo finally got his Best Actor Oscar. Alejandro González Iñárritu
made history by becoming only the third Director to win the award two years in a row. And Emmanuel Lubezki took his third Oscar home in a row for Cinematography one of the rare technical categories Mad Max lost.
Lastly while short categories are always a crap shoot to predict the Animated Short winner was a bit of a surprise. Bear Story was up against the PIXAR movie Sanjay's Super Team and World of Tomorrow which thanks to being on Netflix has picked up a lot of support.

The Oscar's have always been a great event for all movie fans. I am someone who values the opinions of others, which is why I always love seeing the Oscars. Sure, I do make my own predictions of who is going to win what, and I almost always get it right. I am looking to make the most accurate predicts this year too, so I need to brush up on all the movies that are in the contention. I am exited to see who I do.
