Recently we learned that Tom Holland will be playing Spider-Man in the latest reboot and Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car) will be directing. We also know that the movie is going to be set in High School and have a John Hughes Breakfast Club feel to it (not sure what that means). We finally have word on who will be writing the screenplay and according to Deadline it is John Francis Daley and Jonathon M. Goldstein. Daley and Goldstein have worked together a number of times. Their big hit came with Horrible Bosses which lead to their follow up Horrible Bosses 2. The also wrote the Vacation sequel/reboot that is coming out this month.
With the hiring of Daley and Goldstein the big question is will this Spider-Man be more of a comedy? With that resume it feels that is where they are heading. The vacation sequel/reboot looks funny but none of their movies seem like it has had the emotional drama that the Spider-Man world has.
Another interesting fact is that Daley and Goldstein wrote the sequal to Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. The first Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was written (and directed by) Phil Lord and Chris Miller who happen to be working on Sony's other Spider-Man movie which will be animated movie. Which leads to the question is working on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs a prerequisite for Spider-Man?
