Beauty and the Beast Joins Other Disney Princess Movies on Blu-Ray

Beauty and the Beast is finally making it's way to Blu-Ray on September 6th.
Beauty and the Beast relaunched Disney Animation back to it's glory.  It was also the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars (and the only one to be nominated when only 5 movies were nominated).  The 25th Anniversary Walt Disney Signature Collection features lots of extras including a sing along version that has never been available on a home format.  Also included is a sneak peek at the live action Beauty and the Beast that will be in theaters next year.  But if you want to see it on the big screen Milwaukee Film will be screening the sing-a-long version during the Milwaukee Film Festival.

But the biggest news for Disney Princess Fans is that from September 6th - October 17th all 11 Disney Princess Movies will be available for purchase.  Disney is notorious for removing certain movies from the shelf and placing them in the "vault".  For this reason you have never been able to purchase all of the princess movies at the same time.  So take stock and see what you need.  I am not sure which movie will be going back into the vault next so if you want something best pick it up soon.  The 11 official Disney Princess Movies are Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Brave, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Mulan, The Princess and the Frog,  Pocahontas, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Tangled.

Coming July to Netflix

Lots coming to Netflix in July.  Including the Back to the Future trilogy and the Lethal Weapon series.  But it's the Oscar Best Picture Nominee The Big Short that is the big stand out.  With great performances from Christian Bale, Steve Carell, and Ryan Gosling the film documents those that predicted the economic collapse in 2007.
Also coming this month is The Invitation a horror film that premiered at the 2015 SXSW Festival to rave reviews.

Also lots leaving including a bunch of Stanley Kubrick movies, all the Star Trek movies, and Serenity.

Let us know what you are most looking forward to.

Lots of great movies coming to Netflix in June.
Coming on the first you have the original Jurassic Park trilogy.  While the quality declines as the trilogy goes on it's still a great chance to see how amazing the original was.
Later in the month Spotlight hits the streaming scene in what is probably the quickest Best Picture winner to go from winning to streaming.
What movies are you excited to see this month on Netflix.

Memorial Day 2016 Box Office

Memorial Day Weekend use to be one of the biggest box office weekends of the year. But that hasn't been the case for a number of years. And this weekend saw two big movies open to disappointing numbers.

X-Men: Apocalypse opened with $65.3 million over three days. In its entire run Apocalypse will have trouble matching what Captain America: Civil War And Batman v Superman made in their opening weekends.

Alice Through the Looking Glass opened with $27 million over three days. And marks a drastic drop from Alice in Wonderland which made $116 million in its opening weekend. This is the second Memorial Day that Disney had a big flop after last years Tomorrowland failed to connect with audiences.

So the questions of the day is
Are we hitting super hero fatigue? And is Memorial Day cursed for Disney?

Young Han Solo cast in Star Wars spin off

Best known as the singing cowboy Hobie Doyle in the Coen Brother's comedy Hail, Caesar, Alden Ehrenreich is in final negotiations to play the iconic character Han Solo in an origin story. So far, reactions have been mixed from Star Wars fans. Myself, I feel he is an excellent choice as the smuggler and future father to the nefarious Kylo Ren.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the as of yet untitled Han Solo project is set for release in 2018 and is being written by a team of Kasdans, Joe and Laurence. Laurence Kasdan, arguably the best writer in the Star Wars franchise is sure to be true to the character and his roots. There is good reason to be excited about this film, fellow Star Wars fanatics!

There is a lot more good movies leaving Netflix in May then coming.
The recent Goosebumps movies with Jack Black made it quickly from screen to Netflix.
If you love 80 John Hughes movies then you will love the fact that Sixteen Candles is making it's way to the streaming service and if you like early 2000's comedies then you will be happy to see Bring it On coming May 1st.
One notable movie that will start streaming in May is the Hitchcock classic To Catch a Thief from 1955.
Other movies coming include Kindergarten Cop 2 with Dolph Lundgren, Shanghai Knights, Pleasentville and the newest Adam Sandler movie The Do-Over.

Leaving are movies like Blade Runner (which just started streaming), Clerks, Election, Ida, and Black Hawk Down.

Coming and Going on Netflix in April

After months of lackluster offerings Netflix gives us lots of great movies in April.  Stanley Kubrick fans should be excited because we got two classics coming on April 1st.  Both 2001: A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange will be streaming.  And if you grew up in the 80 you should be excited to know that The Explorers will be making their way to Netflix.  The classic Joe Dante film follows three kids (Ethan Hawke, River Phoenix, and Jason Presson) as they build a spaceship out of a Tilt-A-Whirl.
Another beloved 80’s flick coming is The Princess Bride, probably one of the most quotable movies ever written.

Other great movies coming are Best in Show, Erin Brockovich, Boogie Nights, Shawshank Redemption, Mystic River, Sunset Boulevard, and Minions.

Towards the end of the month we have an interesting Netflix Original Documentary Team Foxcatcher. The events depicted in the great film Foxcatcher get looked at anew with never before seen video of what went on with John E. du Pont and his wrestling team.

Full list below.

Oscar Winners

Well the Oscars were last night and finally ends one of the strangest award seasons. One of the fun things about this years Oscars was lack of predictability so I don't feel bad I didn't do so well with my predictions.
Of course as we got closer to the Oscars The Revenant took over frontrunner status but I kept telling everyone you can't count out Spotlight, The Big Short, or Mad Max. So while Spotlight winning Best Picture was a bit of a surprise wasn't total shocker like when Shakespeare in Love beat Saving Private Ryan or Crash beat Brokeback Mountain.
